Archimedes' Principle

The Grimmer STEAM Club learned about Archimedes' Principle, buoyancy, viscosity, and why boats float. Archimedes' Principle is the concept that the upward force exerted on an object is the weight of the fluid the object takes up. Buoyancy is the upward force that is exerted on an object in fluid. Viscosity can be described as a fluid's resistance to flow. All of these aspects were taken into account and the students were challenged with creating a boat out of foil and tape to carry the most number of coins. The takeaway? The larger surface area that the boat has with the water, the better it floats.
